Science a favourite among Tamil Nadu students
Science continues to be the favourite among Tamil Nadu students, and students from the stream have secured more marks than their Commerce counterparts, as was seen after the results were announced on Wednesday.

Of the total 8.6 lakh who appeared for the Class 12 exams, more than five lakh students are from the Science stream. The pass percentage of Commerce students is 2.2 lakh while that of the Science students is 94.29 per cent. Also, it appeared that a majority of the students do not prefer Arts as only a little over 13,000 candidates appeared for the board exams.
“Most of the students prefer Science as it offers a lot of employment opportunities in various sectors. Therefore, even girls choose Science group,” said S Girija, a teacher from a higher secondary school in Nungambakkam.
She claimed the students feel that Commerce group offer a few opportunities except accountant jobs. “But that is not true. Commerce group also has lots of scope,” the teacher added.
