Rajinikanth talks of linking rivers, silent on party launch
Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth disappointed thousands of fans, who had turned up at his ‘Kaala’ audio launch at the YMCA grounds on Wednesday, by not revealing any details about his much-anticipated party launch.
Chennai
In a speech that barely touched upon politics, Rajinikanth reiterated his intent for linking rivers and his support for the Cauvery issue recalling his recent film Linga. “When I heard Lingaa’s storyline, it was built around the theme of water scarcity and a hero who wishes to build a dam for the people’s welfare. I was really impressed, as it spoke to my real-life aim: in fact, my lifelong dream is that all the rivers of south India be united,” he said.
He also addressed speculation over ‘Kaala’ being a political vehicle for him and said, “It is not a political movie at all - but there is politics in the movie.”
Recalling the time when Kalaignar Karunanidhi graced his ‘Sivaji’ success event, he also said that he was one of the crores of people who are eager to hear the voice of the DMK supremo again and hoped that day would come soon. Interspersed with his trademark chuckles and laughter, Rajinikanth said that in life and in movies, one must be wary of those who present themselves as too intelligent or too good.He said that they must endeavour to keep their parents and family happy and that it would bring joy to their lives. He urged them to think constructive, positive thoughts and shun the negatives to advance in life.
Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and producer of the film, actor Dhanush, said that there were many who have profited off superstar’s success, but now seek fame by opposing him in a veiled dig at the likes of director Bharathiraja, who has been vehement in his protest against Rajinikanth’s political entry.
Outfits create ruckus
The audio launch of the film ‘Kaala’ drew criticism from fringe pro-Tamil groups. They were seen at the venue, carrying banners ahead of the event. “We are condemning this act of Rajinikanth, who is a person from Karnataka. The movie should be stopped and he, being a friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is not working for the welfare of the state,” said the protesters. They wanted Rajini to urge the PM to get the people of Tamil Nadu their rightful share. “We are not fools - people who come here for survival should understand this. We will not allow the release of ‘Kaala’ and if they try, then there will be huge repercussions,” they claimed. At the same time, a large number of Rajini fans and members of his camp, decked in ‘Kaala’ dress code (black shirt and veshtis) were also present, carrying pro-Rajini posters and declaring their leader as the next Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
