Condemning Central Board of Secondary School Education (CBSE) for ‘frisking’ students at NEET centres on Sunday, the DMK has demanded that CBSE apologise to the state students for insulting them on the pretext of frisking.

Tamil Nadu people, who saw on television the way the students were frisked, are pained by it, DMK working president M K Stalin said.

Advising CBSE to mend its ways, Stalin, talking to media reporters after inspecting development works in his Kolathur constituency on Monday morning, requested CBSE to tender an apology to TN students for its actions.

Recalling the unanimous resolution adopted by the State Assembly seeking exemption for TN from NEET, the DMK leader, who is also the Leader of Opposition, insisted that the President’s nod for the same be obtained and enforced immediately in the state.

Stalin, who has been reiterating that NEET must be scrapped in toto, remarked that the test claims a human life every year, apparently referring to the death of medical aspirant Anitha of Ariyalur and now Kasthuri Mahalingam’s father Krishnasamy of Tiruvarur.

On Karnataka’s refusal to release 4 tmcft of Cauvery water despite the Supreme Court ordering the same, Stalin said, “It is not new. They (Karnataka) have been saying this (denying water) all along. Supreme Court has ordered release of 4 tmcft after factoring this in. It has also stated Cauvery Management Board. Nevertheless, Central and State governments, which should implement the court order, are neglecting the order and hence various political parties and farmers are protesting here. “ Asked about the government laying foundation stone for the Rs 50 crore memorial for former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa when the state was facing a fund crunch, Stalin described it as ‘unconstitutional’.

“Deceased former CM Jayalalithaa was convicted by the Supreme Court. She was the prime accused in the case. Raising a memorial for such a person is against the Constitution,” Stalin said.

Political leaders, public pay homage to NEET candidate’s father

Leaders of various political parties and general public paid homage to the mortal remains of Krishnasamy, who died of cardiac arrest while accompanying his son, who appeared for NEET in Ernakulam, on Monday.
The body of Krishnasamy was brought to Vilakudi near Thiruthuraipoondi around 3 am on Monday. Tiruvarur Special Tasildhar and police officials accompanied the body from Kerala.
Despite being wee hours, several hundreds of people assembled in the hosue. District Collector L Nirmalraj consoled Krishnasamy’s wife Bharathi Mahadevi and her children.
Leaders of various political parties, who paid their homage later in the day, demanded NEET be scrapped and condemned the CBSE which could not organise the exam within the state.
DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, who visited the house, said girl students were humiliated in the name of dress code. She said the state government had surrendered before the Centre and suggested that education should be brought back to State list as it is the only solution to end the problems. She added that the DMK will fight against NEET and will initiate steps to withdraw it in the state after her party comes to power.
Meanwhile, the CPM leader G Ramakrishnan who consoled the family said, that every one in the state fought against NEET but the Modi led Centre was stubborn to implement NEET for medical admission. With their rigid mind set, an aspirant lost his father and who is responsible for that, he asked.
Similarly, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader Velmurugan condemned the Centre for the strict implementation of NEET for medical admission.
He also spoke out against the dress code, which he said was unusual for the students of Tamil Nadu. There are several noted doctors in Tamil Nadu and they had never appeared for NEET,
    he wondered.

Police to probe ‘fake’ hall ticket
COIMBATORE: Police are probing into a complaint by parents of a medical aspirant who was denied entry over an invalid admission card. The complaint was registered against a staff of the Tamil Nadu government e-seva centre for issuing the card. The girl identified as Jeevitha, a native of Rasipuram in Namakkal district, was denied entry to her exam centre in Salem as the random number in her hall ticket didn’t match with the official list. The officials, however, told her that the number in her admission card matched with the list of an exam centre in Kollam in Kerala. After a heated quarrel, the girl and her family members left disappointed without writing the examination.
