OPS, EPS brainstorm to face challenges at high-level meet
AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday held a party meeting attended by top functionaries, ministers and district secretaries to discuss the challenges faced by the government.
Chennai
The discussion was held even while the AIADMK is facing flak on the Cauvery dispute and being criticised for not raising its voice against the Union government.Â
The party had so far held a hunger protest and a series of public meetings, but the attack by the AIADMK leaders was on the opposition DMK and not on the Centre.
Amid speculations of a Madras High Court verdict on the appeal against the disqualification of 18 MLAs during the vacation period itself, the party is preparing the strategies to be adopted after the court judgments, sources said.
The leaders also discussed the ongoing recruitment of cadre and renewal of the existing ones at the districts level. The meeting was held when the government is holding the cooperative elections and making preparations for the local body polls.
The AIADMK is facing three important cases at the same time in various courts. The Delhi High Court had resumed the hearing on ‘Two Leaves’ symbol case. The appeal by TTV Dhinakaran challenged the Election Commission’s direction to allot the symbol to the faction of treasurer Panneerselvam and presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan.
Eleven legislators, including Panneerselvam, had moved a caveat in the Supreme Court on a case relating to their disqualification since the opposition DMK had vowed to challenge the Madras High Court judgment dismissing a plea to disqualify them.
However, the Madras High Court reserved orders on a plea by 18 MLAs against Speaker P Dhanapal’s order to disqualify them and announced that the judgment would be delivered soon.
