He said the purpose of the crop insurance scheme is to provide timely help to the farmers hit by calamities and drought, but there are irregularities in the distribution of insurance amount depending on the company.

Citing Virudhunagar as an example, he said while farmers who insured themselves in Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks had got relief, those who paid premium with New India Assurance had not received the insurance amount. Farmers, who had cultivated cotton and chillies had not obtained any relief, he said.

There are differences among the insurance disbursement even among the different panchayats of the same district, he said. The insurance amount itself fixed differently for farmers of the same area whose crops had been affected in the same way, he charged. He asked the government to ensure that all farmers with insurance in all the companies must be provided the amount at the same time without any disparity or delay.
