Stalin urges union govt to allot NEET centres within state

Expressing shock at the Centre not sending details of NEET centres to the applicants, despite the Madras High Court ordering the same, Stalin said that it was evident from the union government’s justification for allocating centres in far off Rajasthan for Tamil Nadu medical aspirants that the Modi regime was meting out step-motherly treatment to the state. 

Stating that medical aspirants in Tamil Nadu had to approach the HC to even write tests in their own state, Stalin wondered why the Centre implemented NEET, which affects the future of lakhs of students, in a hurry in conformity with the Supreme Court, while the same government was refusing to do it in the Cauvery case. 

Alleging that the Centre has implemented NEET only to reduce the number of medical students from Tamil Nadu and undermine social justice, Stalin said the students of the state were being made to undergo untold misery due to the slackness of the ruling AIADMK and the indifferent attitude of the Centre. Urging the Centre to allocate examination centres for TN students within the state, Stalin also asked it to drop the move to conduct NEET for AYUSH. He also asked the state to rethink its stand on NEET for AYUSH considering the resolution the Assembly had unanimously passed seeking exemption from the exam. 

Describing the allocation of exam centres in other states as an injustice meted out to Tamil Nadu students, state Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar asked the Centre and state to move the Supreme Court urgently and help set up examination centres for NEET within Tamil Nadu.
