The weathermen at Regional Meteorological Centre predicted that there is also a high possibility for thunderstorms during summer. According to the weathermen, the interior districts recorded light to moderate rains in the last few days and it brought down the temperature. However, once the dog days start from Friday, the mercury level will rise again.
Speaking to DT Next, SB Thambi, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, RMC, said, “Dog days will begin on May 4 and end on May 28. Temperature will steadily increase during this period. Along with high temperature with humidity, there will also be convergence of winds, which will bring rains.”
The weather expert added that the temperature during Kathiri will be between 38 degree Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius in interior districts like Tiruttani, Vellore, Karur, Perambalur, Tiruchy and Madurai.
K Srikanth, a weather-blogger, said, “When the winds from the North and the South meet, there are prospects of summer rains. Weather models indicate that northern parts of the state could see relatively better-off days compared to the past few days as moderate temperatures were predicted for the region. However, rest of Chennai will see slightly above-normal temperatures.”
Temperature in Chennai will remain between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, he added
