Dhinakaran, Vaiko term 4 tmc water release order eyewash
Opposition leaders on Thursday said the Supreme Court order to release four tmc of water to the state is just eyewash since Karnataka would not release water without the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

While leaders like Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran and MDMK general secretary Vaiko said the state should gear up for further protests, Co-operative Minister OS Manian opined that the SC itself could set up the CMB.Â
The Minister’s views were also shared by coordinator of Federation of Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations PR Pandian. He said ordering the Karnataka government to release water would not serve any purpose and only the setting up of the CMB would ensure water. The apex court itself could set up the board without insisting the Centre to do it, he added.Â
Vaiko said the SC had not given proper guidelines to form the CMB and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee. The formation of the two bodies alone would ensure water to Tamil Nadu. The court order to release 4 tmc would be an eyewash since there is no guarantee that Karnataka would release water, he said and asserted that the setting up of Cauvery Management Board would be the only solution for the disputeÂ
However, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan denied that the Centre was delaying the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on Cauvery and asserted that the Union government was only trying to find a permanent solution to the ongoing dispute.Â
Dhinakaran termed the petition of the Union government seeking more time to formulate a draft scheme to implement the Supreme Court verdict on Cauvery dispute as a continuity of the Centre’s anti-Tamil activities.Â
He charged the state government with adopting a soft approach to the delaying tactics of the Centre.Â
Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani said that the Supreme Court, despite rebuking the Centre had agreed to the latter’s request to adjourn the case. Â
