The shocking incident came to light in the morning when people who crossed the bridge noticed the youth hanging from the bridge. The police were immediately informed and the body recovered. A bag was found near the bridge.
Inside the bag, police found a NEET hall ticket, his SSLC certificate, a mobile phone and a suicide note. Police said that the deceased, identified as Dinesh Nallasivan, from K Reddiyapatti village near Sankarankovil, in Tirunelveli district, had scored 464 marks in SSLC. He had also aspired to become a doctor by clearing NEET, said police.
In the suicide note Dinesh had stated, “Let us see that at least now the Prime Minister and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister close the liquor shops. If not, I will come as a spirit (ghost) to damage the shops.” Police also said that Dinesh’s father, Madasamy works as a labourer in Kerala. Following the death of his first wife, Esakkiammal, he had married again but Dinesh was taken care of by his uncle Mani, Madasamy’s younger brother, in Madurai.
After scoring close to 93 per cent in SSLC he was admitted to a residential school in Namakkal and studied well. On Tuesday, he had informed Mani that he would go to see his aunt in Kayathar in Thoothukudi district.
However, he did not go to the house but roamed around in Palayamkottai. He had tied one end of the rope around his neck and the other end to the railing on the railway over bridge. He then jumped and hung himself, police said. Palayamkottai police have booked a case and are investigating.
