Collector takes driver for a ‘memorable ride’ on retirement day

Sources said that T Anbazhagaban, Collector of Karur district surprised Paramasivam, who has been the driver for all the collectors for the past 35 years, by making him and his wife sit in the back seat and drove the car. 

“Like Sarathy in the epic Mahabharatha, Paramasivam took care of us and officials despite the hectic schedule and without bypassing the traffic norms. He proved his expertise and served with all of us with a smile throughout his career,” said Anbazhagan, who also arranged a farewell meeting for Paramasivam. 

Soon after the farewell meeting, Paramasivam was proceeding to the Collector’s vehicle to complete his last trip. But to his surprise, the Collector asked for the key of the vehicle. Paramasivam, who was speechless, handed over the key to him. Leaving everyone surprised, the Collector occupied the driver’s seat and asked Paramasivam and his wife to sit in the car. Anbazhagaban drove Paramasivam and his wife back to his house at Gandhigramam where he was given a grand reception in the presence of the Collector. The Collector added that he felt contended being able to reciprocate the service that Paramasivam had done for the past 35 years. 

Paramasivam has been the favourite driver for several Collectors in the district. He retired from service on April 30.
