The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that with the heavy presence of Westerlies, the same conditions would prevail for two more days.
“Change of wind from Easterlies to Westerlies has resulted in the spike. Earlier, Chennai witnessed temperature between 35 and 36 degree Celsius. However, experts on Sunday predicted that there will be abnormal weather conditions in northern parts including Chennai and its suburbs”, said a weather expert at RMC.
“For the past few days under the influence of Easterlies, some bit of early morning cloudiness also kept a check on the temperatures. With Easterlies weakening more, clearer skies will be the order of the day providing right conditions for temperatures to peak and it will lead to increase in temperature”, added the official.
K Srikanth, a weather blogger, said “Numerical models indicate most parts of Tamil Nadu to see maximum temperatures above the 40 degree Celsius mark. In the Northern districts, large parts of Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Vellore along with interior parts of Cuddalore district are likely to see temperatures touch up to 40 degree Celsius for next two days”.
