Devotees from Theni participate in Kerala temple fest
Several thousand devotees from Theni district participated in the Chitra Pournami festival in Mangala Devi Kannagi Temple, located in Idukki district in neighbouring Kerala, on Monday.

Since the temple is near the Kerala border, devotees reached the temple both by foot and by jeep.Â
The festival commenced with special prayers and large number of women carried milk pots in a procession. An important part of the festival is the offering of ‘Mangala Naan’, in which women would be given mangalsutra and glass bangles as prasadham. To get the prasadham, thousands of women stood in a queue right from early morning.Â
Elaborate arrangements were made by the temple officials for the festival. Drinking water was provided to all devotees who came trekking from the lower camp.Â
Vehicles carrying devotees were regulated by policemen. Theni Collector Pallavi Baldev and Idukki Collector GR Gokul were also present at the spot and coordinated with officials of both the districts. Earlier the festival was conducted for one week but now it has been reduced to one day due to security concerns.
