Local holiday today in Theni and Madurai

As a large number of people from Theni would visit the temple, which is on the border with the neighbouring state, the Theni district administration has declared a local holiday for the festival. 

Interestingly, mangalsutra and bangles would be distributed as prasadam in the temple and so a large number of women devotees would be flocking the shrine. 

Also, the Kumbakarai falls in Theni district has been opened to devotees after the water flow turned steady over the past few days. 

Meanwhile, on Monday, Lord Kallazhagar would enter the Vaigai river here as part of the Chithirai festival and so a local holiday has been declared in Madurai as well.
