Stating that the new syllabus would be better than the one followed by CBSE, the association members said it would be a big challenge for the teachers. At the state level convention on ‘Evolving Tamil Nadu School Curriculum’, the TNSPWA president S Arumuganathan said the new syllabus was the result of the hard work of several hundred teachers and experts who worked day and night to prepare it.
Expressing concern that the new curriculum should not just concentrate on competitive exams, he said: “We need to analyse new textbooks thoroughly and then come to a conclusion whether it supports the overall performance of students.”
The TNSPWA that has about 500 members also expressed concern over how the existing teachers would adapt to the new syllabus. Stating that his forum welcomed the initiative, secretary of State Platform for Common School System P B Prince Gajendrababu said CBSE, which claims to have the best syllabus to meet the requirements of competitive exams, would follow the state’s new syllabus in future.
