Ahead of summer, Velumani reviews water supply in rural TN
Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply and Rural Development SP Velumani held a meeting to review water supply in rural areas and developmental activities across the state, on Thursday.

A statement from the government said that in Tamil Nadu, water is being supplied under the Rural Development department using 2,17,285 hand pumps, 98,839 overhead reservoirs, 1,15,204 velocity pumps and 1,16,962 low velocity pumps.
In addition, 548 integrated drinking water projects are benefiting 5,194 village panchayats, the statement said.
To address the issue of water shortage, a detailed project report (DPR) for undertaking 36,277 drinking water projects, worth Rs 531.55 crore has been prepared. Under this, Rs. 13.52 crore have been allocated for cleaning 8360 borewells, Rs 254.2 crore for drilling 8,681 new borewells, Rs 56.42 crore for deepening 4,855 borewells, Rs 48.44 crore for increasing motor power in 5,385 velocity pumps, Rs 31.49 crore for drilling 404 new open wells, Rs. 25.16 crore for deepening 1,059 open wells and Rs 102.32 crore for 7,533 other drinking water works have been planned.
