Tamil Nadu to procure 75 lakh school bags this academic year
The State government will procure 75 lakh school bags at a cost of Rs 110 crore for the government school students for the coming academic year.

The bags will be in dark pink, navy blue, dark orange and dark grey colours, and will have special water bottle pocket and several compartments enabling students to keep more books and study materials.
Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has been entrusted with the task of procuring quality school bags and distributing it to the students studying in government schools free of cost. “Procuring 75 lakh bags will cost the exchequer to the tune of Rs 110 crore,” a senior official from the School Education Department said. The firm to supply the school bags will be chosen through the tender process, he added.
According to him, each school bag will be packed in a non-hazardous pouch and will have six-month warranty from the date of distribution to the school children in each block in each district of the state.
The official said that dark pink bags with the length of 330 mm is for the students studying from Class 1 to Class 3. Similarly, dark orange bags with the length of 356 mm will be distributed to the kids from Class 4 to Class 7.
The dark grey bags with the length of 406 mm will be given to the students from Class 8 to Class 12.
The category one bag can carry ten kilos while category two 15 kg and category three 20 kg, sources said.
