2,800 buses for Chitra Pournami fest
The state transport corporation will operate an estimated 2,800 special buses to cater to the nearly 20 lakh pilgrims, expected to converge on Tiruvannamalai for the Chitra Pournami festival, which starts on April 29.

Revealing a slew of measures undertaken by the district administration for the festival, district collector KS Kandasamy on Friday said nine temporary bus stands will be set up on various approach roads.
“12 medical centres will be set up on various locations along the 12-km Girivalam path,” he said.
For the benefit of the elderly and the physically challenged, three battery operated vehicles and wheelchairs would be made available. A total of 2,500 police personnel would be pressed into service on the festival days. Pilgrims would not be allowed to light camphor or be allowed to ascend the Annamalai hill.
Annadanam would be provided only in seven specified locations, Kandasamy added.
