TNPSC overlooking Dalit officers: Vigilance member
Accusing the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) of discrimination, a district Vigilance and Monitoring Committee (VMC) member on Tuesday said the commission has failed to act as per Government Orders (GO) passed in connection with the promotion of 23 Dalit officials to Group-I rank.

According to Pandiarajan, the committee member, 23 backlog vacancies were created in 2007-08 for Scheduled Castes, but they were not filled in successive years.
In 2010, the State government passed a GO directing the filling up of the backlog vacancies immediately. Three years later, the TNPSC recruited 56 candidates for posts, including those to fill the 23 backlog SC vacancies. The State then passed two more GOs in 2016 and 2017, directing the commission to consider the 23 SC candidates above the remaining 33 candidates when it comes to promotion. However, the commission has so far not prepared their list as directed by the GO, Pandiarajan claimed.
Condemning TNPSC’s inaction, Pandiarajan has sent a representation to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) stating that the commission is refusing to follow the GOs and is not willing to promote the SC officials.
Speaking to DT Next, Pandiarajan said the commission had made several mistakes in filling up the 23 backlog SC vacancies. “First, the backlog vacancy created in 2007-08 was filled only in 2013. Furthermore, separate exams were not conducted for the SC candidates,” he said.
“The 23 candidates should be promoted first and only then the roster method considered by TNPSC can be followed for the remaining 33 candidates,” Pandiarajan said. “If TNPSC wishes to avoid any action from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, it should prepare and release the list of 23 SC officials immediately,” he demanded.
