Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy inspects an office at the Chief Secretariat on Monday

    Puducherry

Talking to reporters after a surprise visit to the Chief Secretariat in the morning, Narayanasamy said that the administration will take steps to install biometric attendance registration system in all the government offices here.

He said, when he visited the Chief Secretariat at 9 30 am, 30 per cent of the employees did not report for duty. “Biometric attendance registration system is there at the Chief Secretariat to ensure that the employees report for duty on time. But the machine was tampered with by them, so that they can report at their will,” he added. He wondered if this was the situation at the Chief Secretariat, what would be the state in other offices.

It is the duty of the Chief Secretary, Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and Joint Secretaries to ensure that the employees report for duty on time and  initiate action if they fail to do so, he added.

Cautioning the government employees using official vehicles for personal use, particularly to drop their wards to schools, the Chief Minister said that a monitoring committee would be constituted on the issue and action will be initiated after getting its report.

Narayanasamy further said unlike in other states, the Puducherry administration had implemented the 7th Pay Commission recommendations to its employees inspite of financial constrains and added that the government had shattered the rumours of some political parties and organisations that  the government employees will not get salary after December 2017 due to the financial crisis. Further, due to austerity measures adopted, the government managed to enhance the revenue by Rs 180 crore, he said, adding that it is the duty of the superintendents to see that the employees are reporting to duty on time.

However, in some offices the superintendents were absent and he was told that some were on their way to office from Karaikal. In some offices, about 70 per cent of the employees failed to report to duty on time. The Chief Minister called upon all the government employees to be in office punctually and ensure that no files are pending.
