Jumbo tramples woman to death at temple fest

The incident happened when the deceased Badrakali, who had set up a temporary shop for the festival at the Sudalai Madasamy temple, tried to worship the elephant that was brought for the festival. Badrakali hailed from Nalumavadi in Thoothukudi district. 

On seeing her approaching it, the animal trampled, picked her up and threw her away. She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Tirunelveli Medical College, where she succumbed. 

Seevalaperi police registered a case and are investigating the incident. Police secured Rajeswaran, the mahout of the elephant, and are interrogating him.
