Thanking all the parties, which had extended supported to the PMK bandh, he said the protests in Tamil Nadu should reach the ears of Delhi and result in the formation of the Cauvery Management Board. The protests should be peaceful and it should not lead to trouble to anyone, he said and asked the cadre to ensure that no violence takes place.

The PMK was the first party to call for a bandh in Tamil Nadu before the DMK-led opposition parties announced the April 5 general strike. Since, there were early reports of Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the state on April 11, PMK founder S Ramadoss had announced the protest to coincide with the Prime Minister’s visit.

All the parties including PMK’s critics DMK and the breakaway group of the party ThamizhagaVazhvurimai Katchi led by T Velmurugan had extended support to the bandh. Initially, the traders association headed by T Vellaiyan had supported the bandh but later he changed his plans and extended his forum’s support to the April 5 bandh.

The bandh is expected to affect normal life in regions like Dharmapuri, Salem, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and other areas where the PMK has a strong presence.

The protests for Cauvery rights is not a protest for the people of Cauvery delta districts alone, he said.
