Opposition leaders term apex court order on Cauvery frustrating

In a statement on Monday, PMK MP Anbumani Ramadoss said, “At a time when the entire state was expecting that the Supreme Court will pronounce a good verdict over Cauvery row, the Court’s observation will delay not only the justice to the people, but also forming the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).” 

Stating that the PMK welcomed the move in which the top court condemned the Centre for filing clarification petition after the stipulated time, he said, “The state government should file one more petition to get an interim order to save Kuravai crops.” 

Similarly, state CPI secretary R Mutharasan, said that the apex court’s observation has frustrated people of the state and raised more doubts. “This is a clear indication that the state government failed to argue and submit people documents in the SC,” he said, stressing that the CPI will keep protesting to exert pressure on the Centre. The BJP has been focusing only on gaining political mileage in Karnataka, Mutharasan said. 

VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said, “The Supreme Court did not strongly condemn the Centre and it has said that it did not mention in its previous order to set up the CMB and CWRC.” The state government too did not react to the top court’s observation and people lost faith over Cauvery issue. “People of the state are left with no option but to protest in a peaceful manner, till our rights on Cauvery water sharing is re-established,” he added.
