    Keep your cool while you wait for buses in Madurai’s first AC shelter

    People of Madurai North Constituency now have an opportunity to escape the searing heat for at least a few minutes while waiting for their buses, with the city’s first air-conditioned bus stop inaugurated in their constituency, near the Tamukkam ground, on Saturday.

    The bus stop was inaugurated by MLA of Madurai North, V V Rajan Chellappa, and Collector K Veera Raghav Rao. Madurai Corporation Commissioner Aneesh Shekar was also present. The bus stop has been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh the from local area development fund of Rajan Chellappa. Two airconditioners, each with a capacity of 1.5 tonnes, have been installed in the bus stop and the facility can accommodate 15 people at a time. 

    It has facilities such as cellphone charging points and an RO water dispenser. Rajan Chellappa said the Tamukkam ground is one of the most visited places in the city and people returning from Gandhi Museum and nearby parks board their buses there. So, the airconditioned facility will be a blessing for elders and children, said Chellappa. 

    Park inaugurated 

    Sellur Raju, Minister for Cooperation, inaugurated a park at Sembaruthi Nagar in Madurai on Saturday. Collector K Veera Raghav Rao and Corporation Commissioner Aneesh Shekar were present at the inauguration function. 

    The park was constructed at a cost of Rs 42.17 lakh under the AMRUT scheme. Sellur Raju said that as schools have declared holidays for the summer, the park help will offer an additional play area for the children.
