Leopard on prowl kills calf near Valparai estate
In continuing incidents of leopard intrusions, a calf was mauled to death by a leopard in Valparai.
Coimbatore
According to Forest Department, the calf, owned by a person called Abraham from Urulikal Estate and grazing near the estate, was found dead on Friday morning.
On receiving information, the Manampalli Forest Department staff visited the spot and held an inspection.
The Forest Department staff members confirmed the movement of a leopard based on the nature of injuries the calf had suffered and the presence of pug marks in the vicinity.
While panicked villagers urged the Forest Department to set up a trap to capture the leopard, the department has constituted special teams to monitor the animal’s movement. “If the animal is making frequent visits, then efforts would be taken to trap it,” said an official.
In February, a four year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in Valparai. The incident took place when the boy, Babu, was standing near the house after a bath and his mother had gone to bring his clothes.
