Will Rajinikanth fast for CMB formation?

After Kamal Haasan has made it his priority to bring about the formation of the Cauvery Management Board, it looks like his political contemporary Rajinikanth may also now follow suit – by going on a hunger strike.

Speculation is rife that the actor-turned-politician, who has been silent since his return from the Himalayas could announce a day-long fast to escalate the demand for the CMB formation. It is to be recalled that Rajinikanth had earlier also sat on a nine-hour fast demanding Cauvery water from Karnataka in 2002.

Rajinikanth has also signaled his intent to support and join the Nadigar Sangam protest on the same issue. The 67-year-old is said to have been accused of not displaying any action on the topic (apart from tweets), so he is currently in talks with his delta district office-bearers on possibly going on a fast very soon.

Internally, the Rajini Makkal Mandram team has been busy appointing office-bearers for various districts across the state – with Erode, Chennai, Madurai and Vellore districts the latest to complete appointments of representatives.

Meanwhile, several pro-Kannada groups are said to be unhappy with Rajini’s and Kamal’s comments on the Cauvery issue and are planning to protest against the release of both the stars’ movies in Karnataka. As Rajinikanth’s next film Kaala is expected to first hit the screens after the TFPC strike, Kannada activists are said to be readying themselves to make sure the Pa Ranjith film has difficulty with its business  in Karnataka.
