Vehicles seized over civic body’s tax arrears

The drive started when the officials on the instruction from the Vellore-based Regional Director, Municipal Administration, called on commercial establishments and property owners to pay the pending arrears. 

As the parking lot contractor near the new bus stand, who owed Rs 1.17 lakh in arrears failed to do so, the civic officials headed by municipal engineer L Chandrasekaran seized two-wheelers parked there. Municipal Commissioner S Parthsarathy said many have paid the dues after the drive. He warned of strict action against defaulters and added that the office would function till 9 pm on March 31 to enable the residents to pay the dues.
