8 trains delayed as cable snaps near Tirupattur
A total of eight trains were delayed as overhead electric cable snapped at Sevathur near Tirupattur in the Jolorpet section on Friday.
Vellore
The incident occurred when the Chennai-bound Duronto Express was crossing Sevathur. The overhead power cable snapped and fell on the electric engine resulting in the latter losing power and coming to a halt. The engine driver informed the Jolorpet Railway officials. As power tripped when the cable snapped, neither the engine nor the passengers were affected.Â
This in turn stopped six Chennai-bound express trains and two more on the opposite direction on the tracks in the section. Railway officials said that ‘cable cuts’ were not uncommon as overhead power cables were constantly grazed by the engines pantographs. As numerous trains used the section wear and tear resulted in such cable cuts, they added. Since, powering of the snapped section to move the Duronto Express to alternate line was difficult with dedicated lines, the other trains got stranded, added the officials.
