Time to unite, leaders tell farmers

Anbumani Ramadoss, PMK youth wing leader and Dharmapuri MP, said “even after the apex court direction to the Centre to form the CMB within six weeks, it has betrayed the farmer of the state. At the same time, Tamil Nadu people will never forgive the state government, which stood behind the Centre.” 

The state witnessed massive protests over jallikattu and Sterlite Copper plant. “A similar protest is likely to happen to pressurize the Centre to set up the CMB and the farming community should unite to achieve it,” Anbumani said. 

Similarly, the Left parties have condemned the Centre for disregarding the court order. K Balakrishnan, state secretary of CPM, said “the Centre’s failure to set up CMB is a clear indication that it didn’t care for the farming community and it is the high time that the state government, opposition parties and farmers associations should unite and protest against the Centre to ensure the rights of Tamil Nadu.”

Members of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) staged protest in Rameswaram demanding Cauvery Management Board (CMB), on Thursday. When they tried to stage rail roko they were prevented by police and were taken under custody. Similarly members of Tamil outfits staged protest on top of mobile phone towers in Dindigul and Tirunelveli demanding the central government to form CMB and they too were arrested.
