Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran on Thursday charged that the AIADMK government would surrender the Cauvery water rights of Tamil Nadu to remain in power since the verdict on the disqualification of 18 MLAs supporting him would be delivered soon.

Talking to the media here, he said the state government should have filed a clarification petition om the Supreme Court as soon as doubts were raised over the word ‘scheme’ in the Supreme Court verdict. The government had delayed approaching the apex court.

The statement of deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam that the government should wait until March 29 only showed that the AIADMK leaders were afraid of the BJP government, he said.

Dhinakaran said the Madras High Court would soon deliver the verdict on the disqualification of the 18 MLAs supporting him and it would result in a crisis for the AIADMK government. The ruling party leaders are planning to give up the rights of Tamil Nadu over Cauvery to safeguard the government, he charged. The present leaders of the AIADMK would not hesitate to betray Tamil Nadu to remain in power, the AMMK leader alleged. He also flayed the BJP government for not setting up the Cauvery Management Board.

He said the Cauvery rights could not be won by staying in power. The only way to put pressure on the BJP government is the resignation of MPs and MLAs from Tamil Nadu.
