Priority for health and education, says Bedi
Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Monday said that Education, Health, Industrial development, improving tourism potential among others are the priorities of her government.

Addressing the one-day budget session of Puducherry Legislative Assembly, Bedi thanked the Chief Minister and his Cabinet Colleagues for their efforts to ensure that the state’s resources are effectively utilized to fulfill the genuine aspirations of the people.Â
Bedi said the anticipated plan expenditure during the current year would be Rs 2334 crore which is 11.67 percent higher compared to last year’s achievement. Stating that the UT is facing financial constrains due to servicing of past debt, she stressed the need for austerity measures.Â
She said her government is committed to improve the health services to create better health care with more emphasis on health promotion and prevention through the existing health institutions.
 Puducherry stands first among the Union Territories and second in All India level in infant mortality rate which is 10 per thousand live births against the National level ratio of 34 per 1000 live births.Â
The Lt Governor said the key indicators attained by the UT under health sector are commendable, adding that 99.98 percent of the 41,480 deliveries are institution deliveries.
