Even as all eyes were on the DMK working president MK Stalin, who presided over the two-day regional conference in Erode, his father and party president M Karunanidhi watched the proceedings on the television.

This was revealed by Stalin, who said, “Kalaignar enjoyed watching 75 per cent of the conference over television from Chennai. He felt content despite not keeping well.”
After the successful conduct of the two-day conference, which drew cadres in thousands, Stalin on Monday solemnised the marriage of 117 couples under the massive ‘pandal’ on the same venue.
Thanking party workers for coming in large numbers for the conference, the DMK leader doubted if the party will get a venue to hold the next conference, given the ever increasing crowd.
The couples who got married were given half a sovereign of gold mangalsutra (‘thaali’), Rs 15,000 in cash and ‘seer varisai’ (gift items). A photo exhibition, put up at the conference venue displaying the rich history of the DMK will be on display for about a week.
Later, Stalin visited 12 party cadres from Kodumudi, who were hospitalised after they got injured when the van in which they were heading to the conference toppled. They were undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Erode district.
The DMK leader also consoled the kin of Thangamuthu, a party cadre, who died of cardiac arrest at the conference, by visiting their house at Vel Nagar in Nasianur.
