Coimbatore
The police said P Saraswathi of Theerthampalayam, near Kangeyam, kicked up a row when a goat strayed into her property.
A kangaroo court was convened and it forced the owner of the goat, S Devi, a Dalit, and her daughter to fall at the feet of Saraswathi on February 15.
In connection with this, the Kangeyam police booked Saraswathi and four others — Sekar, Manohar, Kavin and Senthil — under sections 294 (B) and 323 of the IPC and the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015.
Even as investigations were under way, Saraswathi hanged herself from the ceiling of her house. “She was living alone after the demise of her husband. Her daughter is married and is living with her husband,” the police said.
Following her death, the police registered a case and further investigations were on.
Police personnel have been deployed in the neighbourhood to prevent any untoward incident.
