In a tweet, he said, “This anti-Sterlite peoples(sic) agitation needs media support. My new status as a party leader need not be a disqualification or a deterent(sic). I am still part of the Tamizh population. I am committed to this cause.”
Kamal, who has been vocal about various causes, stated that the ideology of his party Makkal Needhi Maiam will be centered on the welfare of the state and its people.
Later in the day, the MNM president also lashed out at the state government in response to allegations of censorship. A tweet by blogger Savukku Shankar stated that the government was guilty of blocking channels that aired views of opposition leaders criticising the state from the government run cable service.
Kamal slammed such tactics and said that any government that does not have the integrity and courage to handle criticism is not likely to last in power or in the memory of the people.
