    Collector told to follow TNMMC rules in mining

    The MHC has directed Tiruvannamalai Collector and others to ensure that there is no contravention of Tamil Nadu Minor Mineral Concession (TNMMC) rules while allowing quarrying around Kalyanapuram lake at Chetput taluk.

    The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose which disposed of the PIL after recording the submission of additional government pleader that no permission has been granted for quarrying activities in the above said place said “The Collector and other authorities have to consider the application strictly in accordance with rules including the restrictions contained in the TNMMC rules.” 

    The petitioner C Neelakandan had contended that despite TNMMC rules one E Anandha Kumar, part of Selvi Earth Movers and Transport Pvt Ltd, leveled the entire area of over 40 acres adjacent to Kalyanapuram lake and excavated large size boulders. 

    In the above connection representation was also given to the authorities concerned on March 7. But since it failed to evoke any response, the present PIL was filed.
