Tremors felt in Pernambut
Mild tremors were experienced in and around Pernambut twice on Friday morning triggering panic among the residents.
Vellore
The first tremor, which was comparatively mild, jolted the locals while the next one, a few minutes later, occurred with a loud noise and frightened residents rushed out of their houses.Â
Revenue officials, including the Tahsildar, conducted enquiries with the locals, who said that walls of buildings developed cracks while vessels fell off shelves. Pots fell and broke due to the sudden tremors, they added.Â
Although police officials said there were no casualties, people were scared to go back into their houses. After a couple of hours, when the temperature started to soar, people slowly started returning to their residences. An official inquiry into the issue is still under way.
Significant rise in temperature across Vellore districtÂ
Holding on to its record of being one of the hottest towns in state, Vellore has been recording over 100 degrees for the second consecutive day on Friday.Â
While the temperature stood at 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday, it was 101.1 degrees F (38.4 degrees Celsius) on Friday. The Fort City experienced heat wave throughout the day on both the days.Â
