    In a first, monthly journals for students and teachers in Tamil Nadu

    With the intention of kindling the interest of school students’ in general knowledge and creativity, the State government has decided for the first time to release monthly journals that would feature poems, essays, paintings, sports, riddles, simple question and answers on science, health tips and field experience.

    The School Education Department has also decided to release journals for teachers, which would contain material to improve the creativity of teachers, information communication technology and specific inputs on children psychology. 

    Accordingly, the department has decided to tie-up with a multi-national publishing company to supply 32,000 magazines for students and teachers initially. 

    A senior official from Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, which is entrusted to outsource the printing of journals for both students and the teachers, told DT Next that the journals would be supplied to schools every month from the coming academic year. 

    “The journal for the students will be prepared under the guidance of education experts and artists, who will be involved in content making,” the official said, adding that there would be different sections including poems, essays, painting, sports among others.

    Explaining the details about the magazine for teachers, the official said children’s psychology experts and counsellors would be engaged in preparation of the magazine. 

    The official said all the sections would be updated periodically. “Once the magazine is printed, it will be despatched to 32 district education offices in the first week of every month,” he said. According to him, the company, which engages in the printing work, would return the CD/negatives immediately after the production of the journal. 

    Talking about the quality of the printing, the official said that the impression, ink setoff, saddle wire stitching and wrapper pasting would be on par with international standards.

    “The size of the magazine/ journal will be 18X23 cm and each book would contain pages in the range between 48 to 112 depending on the information available,” the official pointed out, adding that journal size might also vary. The 80 GSM foreign art paper would be used for the journal, he added.
