Tiruvannamalai collector KS Kandasamy, who participated in the event, said commercial banks in the district had Rs 1 crore in Rs 10 coin since the public refuse to take it.

He said the coins are valid legal tender and warned action against those spreading the rumour. The coins have more longevity compared to currency notes and can be safely used in daily commercial interactions. The collector urged the public to use them without any fear.

Kandasamy later purchased a footwear from a shop in the locality and paid in Rs 10 coins. He, also, inspected an Amma Canteen and served food to some of the customers.
