LG Bedi discusses steps to check drowning cases on beaches
Taking cognizance of reports of increasing number of drowning deaths in Puducherry beaches, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday conducted a meeting at the Rajnivas to discuss plan of action for prevention and rescue operations.

According to a Raj Nivas statement, it was decided that all stake holders viz, Tourism, police, coast guard and fisheries would conduct a joint field visit to the sites where accidents of drowning have been reported to carry out a detailed analysis of place, cause and time of occurrence of drowning deaths, and also to interact with coastal villagers to seek their support as a community.Â
Tourism department would mark those identified vulnerable areas with red flags and erect boards, advising tourists not to venture into the sea at those areas.Â
Beat patrol would be carried out by Life Guard along the coast line. Tourism department was advised to display information on the vulnerable coastal areas on their website. Resorts along the beach are advised to strictly prohibit tourists staying in their premises from venturing into the sea.
Director General of Police, Commander, Indian Coast Guard Puducherry region, Director Fisheries and director Tourism participated in the meeting.Â
