Tamil Thaai statue in Tamil Sangam in coming year, assures Minister
The statue of Tamil Thaai would be installed on Tamil Sangam campus in the ‘coming’ year, state Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture K Pandiarajan informed the Assembly on Monday.
Chennai
Intervening during the budget debate in the House, Pandiarajan said the European model statue was being prepared and it would be installed on Tamil Sangam campus in the ‘coming’ year, without clarifying if the coming year was coming financial year or the next calendar year. Originally, a 100ft tall statute was planned at the Centre of Vandiyur lake, the statue plan was later remodelled following opposition from environmentalists, who opposed to erecting the statue in the middle of the water body.
The venue was shifted from Vandiyur to World Tamil Sangam campus also due to opposition from residents of Madurai, who did not like a statue taller than the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple towers.
