Sankar murder case: Eight file petition challenging conviction
Even as the death sentence awarded to six persons in the honour killing case of Dalit youth V Sankar in Tirupur has been referred to Madras High Court for confirmation, the eight people convicted in the case, including the six on death row, moved the HC on Wednesday challenging their conviction.

Admitting the appeal, a division bench of justices CT Selvam and N Sathish Kumar, directed the Udumalpet DSP to file his response.
Sankar fell in love with Kausalya when they were studying in an engineering college in Pollachi. They got married against the wishes of Kausalya’s parents. Following this, on March 13, 2016, a gang hacked Sankar to death. Kausalya suffered injuries in the attack. On December 12, 2017, the Tirupur district session court sentenced six people to death for the murder. Challenging the death sentence awarded to them, Kausalya’s father Chinnasamy, Jegadeesan, Manikandan, Selvakumar, Kalai Tamilvaanan and Madan alias Michael have moved the appeal.
