RDO’s aide assaulted by illegal sand miners
Arni taluk police have registered a case and arrested four sand miners after they allegedly assaulted a government employee, who was part of an inspection team, on Wednesday.
Tiruvannamalai
Cheyyar Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) incharge K Haridoss accompanied by tahsildar M Mani were checking illegal sand mining activities on the Cheyyar-Arni border.
The government authorities, who were travelling in a private vehicle, then saw four persons, identified as Ravi, Selvaraj, Venketachalam and Munusamy, ferrying sand using carts near Seeshamangalam.
The authorities reportedly demanded to know why the miners were carting sand without valid permission. Unaware that they were government officials, Ravi’s son-in-law Thanikachalam allegedly hit the RDO’s duffedar Achudanandam with his whip after a heated argument that broke out between the two parties.
Following this, the officials immediately registered a complaint with the Arni taluk police who nabbed the four accused persons. Thanikachalam managed to escape. The police are on the lookout for him.
