In the petition, they stated that when the prayer session was under way in a church in Sikkender Chavadi here on Sunday, a gang of men from Hindu Munnani barged into the church and attacked people inside. In the attack, more than 30 women and children fled in panic.

They were verbally abused and warned that they should not come to church in the future. Also, the priest and a woman were attacked inside the church and its properties were ransacked. Holy Bible copies were also burnt by the gang.

A person called Alagarsami of Karimedu in Madurai had been provided police protection and he had misused this by leading the gang, they claimed in the petition. So, the government should withdraw police protection provided to Alagarsami, demanded the petitioners.

They also claimed the BJP, backed by the RSS, was following the policy of attacking minorities and their properties in north India and was trying to replicate the same in southern states. They do not have a presence in the south and so were desperate to come to power by creating differences among people. But in Tamil Nadu, all people visit mosques, churches and temples irrespective of their religious beliefs.
