Kamal’s first salvo at Rajini: Why mum on many state issues
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan in Coimbatore on Monday fired the first ever direct salvo against Rajinikanth for remaining silent on various issues concerning the state.

When asked by reporters over Rajini keeping mum on various issues including the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), Kamal replied, “He remains so in many of the pressing issues.” Both the veteran actors Kamal and Rajini, who took a political plunge, have made it clear recently that they are on different political paths and may not join hands. “If Rajini’s hue is saffron, then an alliance is unlikely,” he said at Harvard University in Massachusetts in the US.
But this is the first time the Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) founder had made a direct attack on Rajinikanth. While Kamal has been outspoken from the beginning targeting the AIADMK administration, Rajini has been criticised for taking a soft approach.
On Theni forest fire, Kamal said the government should devise regulations to ensure the safety of people entering forests. Appealing to families of the victims not to disturb doctors treating them out of emotion; Kamal said, “I too wouldn’t like to be a disturbance by visiting in person.” Further, he appreciated the government’s rescue operations. Pointing out that the CMB should definitely be formed; Kamal said that the issue has unnecessarily been complicated. “Not only farmers, everyone should learn to conserve water,” he said adding, I will surely raise the issue of the check dams being built across river Bhavani with the Kerala Chief Minister.
