TN govt allots Rs 200 crore fund for 10 NAAC-accredited universities
The state government has allotted Rs 200 crore to 10 state universities which were accredited by the NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council).

As many as 44 other arts and science colleges and 21 university constituent colleges were provided Rs 2 crore each for improving their higher education levels, state higher education minister and Thiruvalluvar University pro-chancellor K P Anbalagan said while delivering the special address at the 13th convocation of the university at Vellore on Friday. Â
Stating that the Thiruvalluvar university had enrolled 1.50 lakh students through its 122 affiliated and constituent colleges in the Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts, Anbalagan said the government had allotted another Rs 423.20 crore for technical education and research in colleges and universities.Â
Referring to the GER (Gross Enrollment Ratio), he said Tamil Nadu ranked first as the state’s GER was 46.9 per cent, compared to the national average of 25.2 per cent.Â
Similarly, the state’s GER for women was a high 45.6 per cent, compared to the national average of 24.5 per cent. Delivering the convocation address, Madras High Court judge Justice V Parthiban said the country needed strong, smart, upright and intelligent individuals as India was undergoing a transition.Â
Presenting the annual report vice chancellor K Murugan said in the current financial year 114 enrolled in varsity departments, while 52,174 enrolled in affiliated colleges.Â
Governor and chancellor Banwarilal Purohit presented degrees to 234 graduates while another 46,555 students received their degrees in absentia.Â
