Priest tastes blood of 1,200 goats during fest
The annual Kutti Kudi Thiruvizha (goat sacrifice festival), organised in view of the Kuzhumayee Amman temple festival near Puthur, was held on Thursday during which the temple priest tasted the blood of 1,200 goats, apparently to appease the goddess.

According to the organisers, over 1,200 goats are sacrificed in the month of Maasi by devotees from various communities to get the blessings of the Goddess during the festival celebrated for four days. Priest, J Sivakumar, accepted the ‘offering’ (sacrificial lambs) by tasting the blood of the goats.
