In a retort to Rajini, CM says MGR’s rule still on
Questioning the logic behind actor Rajinikanth’s claim to form MGR government, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday asked, “When the party formed by MGR himself is in power, how could anyone claim to form the AIADMK founder’s government.”

Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters after attending the International Women’s Day function, the Chief Minister said AIADMK government is MGR’s government. He also dismissed the opinion of former mayor Saidai S Duraiswamy that there is a power vacuum in the state.
After the founder’s death, his successor J Jayalalithaa took over the party reins and formed the MGR rule. Both the leaders worked for the people till the end of their lives and their party is still in power, implementing their policies and programmes, Palaniswami said. He said former chief minister Jayalalithaa had implemented several welfare measures for women and she was the one who provided 50 per cent reservation for women in the local bodies. “My government is continuing the good work of Jayalalithaa after her demise,” Palaniswami asserted. When asked about the allegations that the AIADMK government under him is not providing a government like that of MGR, the Chief Minister asserted that the policies and programmes are being followed by his government.
Meanwhile, AIADMK ally and Kongu Ilaignar Peravai leader Thaniyarasu too hit out at actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on Thursday at a function in Aruppukottai and said he would not allow actors to rule the state again.
“The actors think that the AIADMK will not survive and they are dreaming of becoming chief ministers. People will not be deceived and they will not vote them. If all the leaders of the AIADMK are united, the party will be strengthened,” he added.
