Dr K Anandan, Head, Department of Education at BDU, also a member of a two-member visiting team of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and convener of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai, was reportedly involved in irregularities for the past few years and granted permission to even those institutions which failed to fulfill requirements.Â
The Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University is authorised to grant and renew affiliations to BEd colleges across the state, Anandan was also reportedly involved in similar activities and recommended affiliations to BEd colleges across the country as he was a visiting team member.Â
Later, the NCTE apparently found out about the irregularities in affiliations and scrapped the visiting team and the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University as it was found misusing its power.Â
Meanwhile, a formal complaint was lodged with the CBI by the NCTE to probe the issue and the agency recommended that the NCTE form an inquiry committee initially and submit a report based on the inquiry for procedural steps to be taken by the CBI.Â
Subsequently, the NCTE asked BDU Vice Chancellor P Manisankar to form an inquiry committee.Â
Based on the recommendations, the V-C formed a committee last week. Confirming the formation of the committee, he said an inquiry was on and he cannot disclose details about it now.Â
A report would be submitted to the NCTE. The council has also sought the support of the CBI to probe the issue.
