Chain snatched from daughter riding pillion with SI dad

According to police, Velliangiri, a sub-inspector attached to the Ukkadam police station, was taking his daughter Lavanya to the railway station, when the incident happened around 5.30 am. Lavanya was heading to the station to take a Chennai train after visiting her parents residing at the PRS police quarters here. 

“While reaching Dr Balasundaram Road, Velliangiri slowed the bike near a speed breaker when a bike-borne youth wearing a helmet snatched Lavanya’s chain and sped away. Though Velliangiri raised an alarm, the stretch was deserted and none came to his rescue,” police said. 

Immediately, the policeman alerted Race Course police, who stepped up vigil and conducted vehicle checks around the city. But the youth, who was wearing a red T-shirt and riding a black two-wheeler, could not be traced. 

Police are examining CCTV footage along the stretch and further inquiries are on. The incident created a flutter among police personnel as well.
