Varsities need more transparency: Governor
Taking serious cognisance of the complaints against various universities, Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday chaired a vice-chancellors’ (VCs) and Registrars’ meeting at the Raj Bhavan to sort out various issues pertaining to it.

The Governor’s meeting with the VCs assumes significance as it comes in the wake of the recent arrest of Bharathiar University vice-chancellor Dr A Ganapathi over bribery charges.
This is the first time that Purohit, as the Chancellor held such a meeting after taking over as the Governor. Raj Bhavan sources here said that the meeting, which was held at the Darbar Hall, discussed ways to improve several activities of the universities.
Vice-Chancellors of various universities including the MGR Medical University and Tiruchy Bharathidasan University participated in the meeting, which started at about 10.30 am.
During the meeting, which lasted till the evening, the vice chancellors highlighted their issues through proper documents, including Power Point presentations. After hearing the grievances of the VCs, the Governor also enquired about several complaints and discrepancies related to universities including appointments of professors and staff.
Governor Purohit also asked all the vice-chancellors to ensure transparency in the day-to-day activities of the universities.
