Kamal condemns TNPCB’s negligence of hydrocarbon wells
Actor-turned politician Kamal took to his Twitter handle on Saturday to criticise the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
Chennai
He condemned the TNPCB for being another government body not doing its job. He added that its actions were tantamount to betrayal of the trust of the people.
This was in reference to the fact-finding report released by the Cauvery Delta Watch that showed that the hydrocarbon wells operational in the delta districts functioned without the requisite environmental license. The evidence was obtained from the TNPCB through the Right to Information Act. The ONGC has since refuted these claims.
In keeping with progressive notions espoused by Kamal, the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam, the party enrolment form has no reference to religion or caste. The form also contains an option for third gender in addition to male and female.
While there is provision for online registration that was launched last month, paper registration forms were also seen arriving in bundles at Kamal’s office on Eldams Road. The form requires basic details such as name, address and phone number.
Meets Kerala Chief Minister
Kamal Haasan called on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the Tamil Nadu Government Guest House in Chepauk on Saturday. The latter was in the city for treatment at Apollo Hospitals – reportedly an annual medical checkup -and was discharged around 4 pm in the afternoon after his consultation. Pinarayi Vijayan and Kamal share a close relationship. Kamal has visited the Chief Minister prior to his entry into politics. The latter had also sent a video message wishing Kamal success at the launch of his political party in Madurai on February 21.
